Textarea -WP inserting <br /> in the box

Please excuse me if I’m having a blonde moment 😛 I’m sure it will be a V8 moment once someone tells me the solution.

I need to add code to a page for people to copy, and WP is adding ‘
‘ all throughout it. What I want is just to use the ‘<textarea>’ code to display it, not link to a page with the code on it (which I’m sure someone will suggest).

So I suppose the real question is, how do I get WP to stop adding the linebreaks in just part of a page (not post)?
