I use aksimet spam filter and it works well. All spam is held for my review and is not published without my permission. I need to understand where it comes from because from time to time (like now), I get about 100 spam per day all pertaining to a specific post. Why does one particular post get victimized like this rather than all my posts at random? The only way I have found to not get this spam is to unpublish or hide my particular blog post. I’ve had to do this to a few of my posts before and I just want to understand why and how it happens. In my latest case, the spam is a series of randomly generated URL’s and a paragraph of “?” marks, but sometimes random words are generated into a paragraph. All I do is delete the spam from my dashboard. Most of these have a .ru country of origin for the spam.

That post has probably got a high ranking in Google at that point in time.
I see this regularly on one of my own sites. It’s a pain but, with Akismet in place and all comment requiring admin approval, there’s no long term harm done. Just needs a daily clearout sometimes.
