How to add a second blog to a site?

I have a blog site with the wordpress pages in the web root directory. I want to create a second blog accessable from the main page, in a tab.

What I’m thinking I need to do is:

1. Create a new database for the new blog
2. Install wordpress into a a folder on my site
3. Have that new wordpress install connect to the second database.
4. Configure the look and feel of the new blog and start posting.

My questions:

1. Is the above correct, or am I making more work for myself?
2. How would I create a tab on my main blog to link to the second blog?

I suppose I COULD make a landing page when you first get to my site so you can select which blog one wants to read. I’m considering that option and the more I think of it, the more I like it.

I’ve never done this before, so I’m not positive about what needs to be done. Any advice and/or assistance would be MOST appreciated!

get this plugin
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/page-links-to/

basically create a page titled Blog – or whatever (will show on main navigation that way)
and use this plugin to redirect it to your new blog

Hello,
I’m trying to add an additional wordpress installation to my site Harmonic Relaxation. I’ve followed the “installing multiple blogs” instructions as far as I can tell, copying wordpress files to a new sub-directory, creating a new database, and changing the new config file where needed.
The problem is that when I go to the wordpress install page, or any other page in the new subdirectory, I get a 404 error from the existing wordpress install that resides in the root directory of the site.

Any ideas on what I’m missing here?

I just did what you did wtc223. what is the work around? I am trying to add a blog in a sub folder of a wordpress site that already uses the blog to organize products. I basically want a second blog.

I’m having the same problem. I use the first blog functionality to keep a database, but want to install a second blog for use as a blog. I’m told that wordpress 3.0 allows us to use a second blog, but can’t figure it out. I’ve searched these forums to no avail. Any advice would be helpful.
