• Hi All

Ive just chosen the option “Gimme A Blog!” in the signup process to WP.

I have a custom template downloaded and ready to use for my blog.

I got the gist that to add a custom template id need to install wordpress and upload it (I have a domain name and hosting with MySQL – not an expert tho..) is this correct?

Should i have chosen “Just A Username, please”

Yes, you need to install the software from WordPress.org on your own webspace to be able to use downloadable WordPress themes.

You only need the “just a username” option on WordPress.com to get an api key for akismet. It shouldn’t really matter though.

you are confusing the free blog at wordpress.com for the one you install on a webhost here at wordpress.org
but that’s cool – you’ll need the api key from wordpress.com for certain plugins

since you have a domain name and a host, you will need to
    a) see if your host offers a one-click install of wordpress
    or
    b) click on the download link at the top right side of this page
unzip the file and follow the readme for instructions on installing

once installed, either way, you can then install your template thru the wordpress admin area or by uploading it
