Support » Plugin: JTRT Responsive Tables » Tables won't save

  • Help! I’ve been trying to use the plugin with limited success. I cannot seem to save the tables about 90% of the time. I import my .csv & it shows the data just fine. From there it doesn’t matter if I hit “next” or just jump to “publish.” When the screen refreshes the table is back to default (no imported data). I can do this over & over and it just won’t save…..

Oddly, the 10% of the time it does work, it’s usually a table I’ve created 3 or 4 versions of. One of them will suddenly ‘remember’ the data it forgot immediately after I created it. There isn’t any rhyme or reason to it, or none that I can see.

I’m using the Catch Box theme by Catch Themes & the latest version of WordPress. It doesn’t seem to matter if my other plugins are turned off or on (I’ve tried both ways).

Additionally, I’m using Microsoft Excel to create the .csv files but I am on a Mac. It doesn’t matter which of the 3 .csv formats I choose. I’ve tried all three formats. The data imports but the moment I save the table it vanishes.

The data I’m using is all text – no .html, no emails, no currency. Just text. I’ve even tried setting the columns to “text” but that doesn’t seem to help either.

I’ve just tried using Google Sheets but it still won’t save the information in the table. I’ve also tried creating a test table manually, it still won’t save. I’ve also tried this using Safari & Chrome.

I don’t know if this matters, but I am running a WordPress Multisite setup.

    Hello HMiller

Thank you for using my plugin and providing feedback.

I have an idea as to why your tables are not saving. Could I possibly get a copy of your csv file to test it out? It shouldn’t matter anymore whether or not you use a mac or windows, I changed the converter plugin for v3 which is a lot more advanced.

While I’m waiting on the CSV, I’ll do some testing and get back to you if I can replicate the issue. Also one more question, did you possibly upgrade from a previous version? Or did you fresh install the newest version of the plugin?

    Thanks
    John

Think I have the same problem here, it doesn’t matter if I use a csv or generate the table myself, it is the same issue. Tried un-install and re-install as originally had problems activating, that turned out to be php version 5.3 was too old. Upgraded to v 5.6 solved that.

Tried generating my own table. Hit preview and only the title shows. Hit Publish and it reverts to the original default table. Tried to view from the All Tables page and get a 404 not found.

Hoping for a solution soon, thanks.

    Hi Richeee,

So you can’t view your table by hitting the preview button, you need to use the shortcode on either a page or post for the table to show up.

As for the table not saving, I’m not sure what to say. Its definitely an issue but I’m not sure how to reproduce the error. If you have a test website that you don’t mind offering me access to, I can go in and take a look at some of the issues that may be happening. Unfortunately I can’t do much without knowing anything else. I have 4 test environments setup all with different versions of php and different versions of wordpress. They all seem to work for me. Maybe you have plugins active that conflict with mine? If you can access your apache/php error log files and see if you can see anything related to JTRT tables, it would help narrow the problem down without me having access to your backend.

Sorry for the inconvenience my plugin has caused. For future notice, if you contact me through [github](https://github.com/JohnTendik/jtrt-tables/issues) it would be much easier and better for communication.

    Thanks
    John

Thanks for the reply John. I have now found an alternative solution by using the FooTable Plugin with Websimon Tables. Websimon Tables is what I was already using so the beauty of this is I only have to configure Footable and it’s doing what I need, so less work for me. 🙂

Thanks again, I’ll check out you plugin in a future version, cos it looks more configurable than footables. I have a separate development site (different theme) on the same hosting server, just different directory, and having the same issue there, so I think it’s something to do with the hosting provider’s set up. Their security is a bit sensitive, I’m always trigging it with false positives and having to call them to get them to remove a filter and let me back in PITA. Good luck with fixing it.

    Cheers

Hello guys, I’m making some progress on this problem.

Its a firefox browser related issue. For some reason Firefox is executing Javascript differently than other browsers. If you are running into this issue (and are using Firefox), please try to use a different browser and see if the problem goes away. If you’re not using firefox and are still experiencing this issue, please open a new ticket and let me know.

I’m looking into this issue and will release an update when I find a fix. Thank you all for bringing this to my attention and being patient.

Sorry for the giant delay. I did install the plugin fresh; I’ve never used it before. I have many many tables & this happened with all of them. I even created a table where I just wrote the word “stuff” – 3 columns, 3 rows – and it still wouldn’t work either as an imported .csv or as a table I created within the plugin. I don’t use Firefox, I use Safari mostly. I also tried the tables in Chrome but issue persisted there.

I do think the webhost may be an issue. I’m currently (and sadly) with Bluehost. I had to uninstall the plugin 2 days ago because my site crashed. I only had it working on a few pages at that point. I decided to just use regular tables on the rest of the pages. I updated a few other plugins & my site crashed. Bluehost said it was this plugin causing the problems. I deleted it via cpanel and the site came up.

    Hey hmiller,

Thanks for getting back to me. That’s weird you have this issue on the safari browser since thats the browser I use. I haven’t been able to reproduce this issue except on firefox. However, I will have to do more digging around it seems.

As for the server, I don’t think BLuehost is the issue, unless your php version is super outdated the server shouldn’t be a problem. Thats odd that my plugin caused the site to shut down when you updated other plugins. Do you mind listing the other plugins that you updated so I can do some testing to make sure its not a compatibility issue?

Thanks again for being patient and for the feedback and support. If you could let me know which plugins you had installed at the time it would definitely help me out. Also check to make sure that your PHP version is above 5.3, if its not that may also be the problem.

    Thanks

I thought it was odd too. 🙂

There are the active plugins across the network:
    – Akismet
    – Autoptimize
    – Contact Form 7
    – Custom Share Buttons w/Floating Sidebar
    – EWWW Image Optimizer
    – Facebook Open Graph, Google+ and Twitter Card Tags
    – Google Analytics Dashboard for WP
    – Jetpack
    – Spam Protection by Cleantalk
    – WP Hide Title
    – Yoast SEO

These plugins are installed but not activated:
    – Above the Fold Optimization
    – AMP
    – Cloudflre
    – Live Weather Station
    – WP Super Cache
    – WP Ultimate Post Grid

Unfortunately several plugins have updated in the last few days (some several times). I *think* the ones that updated just before the site crashed were:
    – Contact Form 7
    – Yoast SEO
    – Above the Fold Optimization (not active yet)

    Hey hmiller,

That looks like a solid list of plugins 😛 Thanks for getting back to me I will make this a priority because it is a rather annoying bug. I’m super busy during the week with school and work but sometime in the weekend I will take a closer look at this and make sure its not a compatibility issue. Like I said those are really good plugins so I will do my best to make sure my plugin plays nicely with everyone else’s.

Thanks again for bringing this to my attention!

    1. Publishing the default
    2. Entering the data
    3. Updating

    Worked for me…

This was from V3 🙁 Although very ambitious, it failed miserably.

I suggest everyone update to V4 asap. I have tried to include a data conversion process for those upgrading, you will see a message about it if you upgrade from v3.

V4 has a way better table editor, similar to excel, with more features like formulas on the way.

    John

Where to find V4? Is it already available?
