• Hi,

I am having problems logging into my dashboard. I have an account with wordpress.com and I have posted a forum on there but they have told me to come here.

I was locked out of my account caitlinjayne (have been using caitlinjayne91 on .com fine) but cannot reset my password as it tells me there are no valid email address attached… I tried to retrieve my account but it told me my website isn’t valid…

I have no idea what is going on as I haven’t had a problem and have been using .com perfectly fine for over a month now with no issues only to be told am I a .org user despite my website saying .com??

I need help accessing my dashboard please!!

    website – caitlinlarkworthy.com

    Thank you!!

Your website is not hosted at wordpress.com, as far as I can see.

Here are some methods for resetting the password on a self-hosted WP site.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the clarification, just one more question… I have created a wordpress.org account, how do I link it to my wesbite so I have a dashboard? I can access my wesbite through .com currently (like I can create posts, publish them, see my stats but cannot edit my actual site).

As I never set up the account with wordpress.org it was wordpress.com, how can I reset the password if I it doesn’t exist? I have read through the link but I don’t think that can help me as it isn’t a simple password retrieval…

Sorry not very computer savvy so I am going to be very confused…

Your wordpress.org account has nothing to do with your website.

Your website is your website. WordPress.org (this family of sites) separate. WordPress.com is separate.

If you are trying to login to your self-hosted WP site, I gave you a like (above) for assistance. If you are trying to login to wordpress.com, you need to talk to them. You’re already logged in here, to wordpress.org, so that seems to be working.

Ok sorry I don’t think I am understanding what you mean…

Ok so I can’t access my dashboard through here? This is where my confusion lies because I have been using wordpress.com fine until a few days ago where I was locked out of my account being told that there is no valid account or email address and now I am being told its because I am using a self hosted website (which is fine I get that, I am using Bluehost).

I don’t understand how I haven’t had an issue until now using .com if I have a self hosted website and I have nothing to do with .org (never cracked a mention on anything I was doing) until I created this account after being told I needed to contact .org

I appreciate your help with this but I am just not understanding how for a month I can be using one thing if in fact I am linked to the other??

no, your dashboard has NOTHING TO DO with wordpress.org.

caitlinlarkworthy.com is at bluehost. WordPress.org provides wordpress software. It does not host or manage your website. Your website uses software from wordpress.org.

If you use Jetpack, you may have set up your site to allow you to login with your wordpress.com user ID and password. That might be the only link between your site and wordpress.com

To login to your site use caitlinlarkworthy.com/wp-login.php

    Ok thanks,

So maybe I shouldn’t be contacting either .com or .org but bluehost themselves if it is a connection error with them?

I have tried to that url many times to log in and receive the same error message when trying to change my password

    “email could not be sent
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the email function”

    Maybe bluehost is the answer?

oh, so we come down to that finally!

Please check with Bluehost support. It may be to a soon-to-be release WP bug (or maybe not).
