 * please can I ask how this happens? Do you update the htaccess file?

   ways. If you choose “Force HTTPS via HTACCESS” method in Force HTTPs page of 
   WP Encryption, then it updates htaccess to achieve redirection. If you choose
   alternative WordPress method, it uses WordPress hooks to redirect to HTTPS.
