• I have explored this topic within the forums and also through Google. Everything I come across is more complicated than I want and I can’t understand it

I have a boring old website that does nothing more complicated than tables. I want it to be visible on a mobile phone. I was told I have to run it through WP to make this happen.

I have installed WP. Now I just want my old home page to come up when I access the site and everything to behave as before. I don’t want anything
dynamic or “interesting”. So, for example, is there a command I could put in my index.php that says “load home.html” and away we go?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • No, there is no “load home.html” command. It sounds to me like you would be better off installing WordPress in a subdirectory and have your regular site in the root, and only use WordPress where you need it, by using URL’s that reference WordPress Pages in its subdirectory.

But we are getting ahead of things here. WordPress does not even include support for Tables in its Visual Editor. You’ll need a Plugin for that. And I’m still not sure where the magic you describe will come from that makes things visible on a Mobile phone that aren’t now. Although it is true that many WordPress Themes do a good job of improving readability on a Mobile device.

Not exactly. I’m not trying to dissuade you from trying WordPress, but it’s not all that difficult to make an existing web site responsive. This Google search turned up several articles and references:
