• Hi,

I am a graphic designer and has a client who wants some updates on their website. I am not super technical, so I logged i to the wp-admin page yesterday and thought it would be best to take a backup plus one to local – and now I can’t (or anybody else) access the dashboard. The login window simply loops back to the login again. I can access everything through the FTP client but I am not sure what to do. Will it solve the problem to delete the backup from yesterday or do I have to overwrite the wp-admin file?

    Hope someone can help.

    Thank you!

  • Hi hellain. Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply! I tried to re-name the plugins and then back again to original name plus updating to WP latest version. Now everything seems to work again. Pheww…

    🙂

You’re welcome; glad you got it working.
