  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Still having the slow loading of wp-login.php when switching to default theme. Does not appear to be a theme-specific problem.

Ok, it was in fact a plugin issue. It was one of the few plugins I didn’t deactivate. I assumed it couldn’t possibly be an issue since the plugin nothing to do with the login page. Wow was I wrong. The plugin supposedly supports my version of WP too. Deactivating and notifying plugin author now.

    Thank you for the help.

And this is why we ask people to deactivate ALL plugins…

Glad to hear that you managed to sort it out.

I know, I know. Sorry. I was hesitant as the site greatly depends on some of the plugins for access restrictions and I didn’t want to deactivate them if I didn’t have to. I was also fearful I would lose plugin settings when I reactivated. Out of all the plugins deactivated, only one didn’t retain its settings when I reactivated. But it only had a few settings that thankfully I remembered.

    Thanks again.
