Hi S,
There isn’t a built in option to get blog posts to display in a grid with Orvis.
You’ll notice from the home page of the theme’s demo site, however, that portfolio items are styled in a similar way to what you’re trying to achieve.
With the above considered, you have a few options:
- You can enable Jetpack’s Custom Content module and convert your blog posts to portfolio items. They will then by organised and styled in a grid. This wouldn’t be ideal if your content is more suited to a blog.
- You could create a child theme and make changes to the theme’s code, so that blog posts display in a grid by default. This would require some familiarity and comfort with HTML and PHP.
- If neither of the above options suit, you could consider a different theme that organises posts into a grid by default. Rowling, Gazette, Baskerville, Dyad, and Cubic are popular examples of such themes. You can also search for more using the “Grid Layout” filter in the WordPress.org theme repository:
https://wordpress.org/themes/tags/grid-layout/
Let me know if that information’s helpful or if you have any further questions on any of the options.

hello,
thank you for your help.
I decided to use the jetpack custom content module but I am struggling to understand where to put the portfolio shortcode on my category pages.
for example I would like the posts on that page (http://asterie.jp/category/life-style/) to appear in a grid.
Moreover, is there a way to change the number of columns used for the pictures with the main orvis portfolio feature ? (I would like to have 4 columns, 1 for text + 3 for pictures, like the Orvis demo)
Thanks in advance,
S
Hi S,
By default, different portfolio items are split up by project type and you can view each project type by adding /project-type/projectname to the end of your site’s URL. For example, each of your portfolio items that have been assigned the breakfast project type can be found here:
http://asterie.jp/project-type/breakfast/
From the above view, you’ll see that there’s four columns, just like the theme’s demo site.
You can add links to each project type as a custom link to your main menu.
Let me know if that’s helpful or if you have further questions.

thank you , Siobhan !
I made the link under the Menu as Breakfast 2, and so on.
I can see the pics with grid, but I dont see the side bar with recent post and Instagram…
I can only display the sidebar with blog posts?
and, Is there a way to have my posts looking more like blog posts?
because , the sentence width is small and only left side,,,
( you can see on Interior 2 on my site )
thank you !!
The right hand sidebar, with your Instagram and recent posts widgets, will only display on individual posts or pages.
You can display text on the left hand side of your Portfolio pages by navigating to Appearance > Customize > Portfolio and entering information to the Portfolio Archive Content text area.
If you’d like to display widgets to the right hand of your Portfolio pages then you could by making a child theme and digging a little into HTML/PHP.
Let me know if you do decide to make a child theme and I can then point you to the specific files you’d need to make modifications to.
