According to Yoast: “Comments destroy your carefully constructed keyword density.” (http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/#pagesvsposts). So I think in terms of SEO, a post without comments is better.
Based on that statement, I myself prefer to paginate the comments, break it down to 50 comments per page. And it is faster to load too.

Hello,
some of my articles have between 300 and 1000 comments. I don’t breake them in pages, beacause google don’t like it. But i see that comments are loading very slow and i have to wait sometimes up to 20-30 seconds until article with 1000 comments is fully loaded.
Any suggestions?
