Support » Fixing WordPress » 3 questions about my new WordPress Blog

  • Hey everyone, just started using wordpress (former MT user) and I have a few questions. I’m sorry if these questions are simple, i’m very tech savvy but new to web design. Thanks – MATT

    1) Can you design your own “look” or “theme” like you can with a webpage in Dreamweaver?

    2) I just bought my first website and i’m still working on the design. How can I put my WordPress content on the main page of my site? Would I insert the RSS feed into an iframe or build the main page of my site into my WordPress template? This is the “rough draft” of the page i’m talking about:

    3) I may want to make my new wordpress blog look just like all the other pages on my website. What would be the best way do this?

    Thanks again for your help.

  • 1. Though Dreamweaver is not the recommended tool around here (try a search on Dreamweaver, which will bring up threads like this one), you should be able to use it.

    2. As long as a php file has this at the top:

    <?php require("./wp-blog-header.php") ?>

    It will work as a WordPress document. Just make sure it’s pointing to the correct location for wp-blog-header.php.

    3. For an example of the basic elements of a WordPress page and what you might want to place in your own setup, dig into the wp.php file, which should be in your blog’s home directory. I’d also suggest looking over the Blog Design and Layout pages on the WordPress Codex for additional help incorporating WordPress elements in your design:

    Thanks for your help.
