In Netscape 7.1, the cal on this site stays visable. What that means to a blogger is that as the element gets longer as either a content or menu div does, if it is absolutely positioned the parent container will not – as I understand it, expand with it. It is therefore not possible to position a footer. What is worse – is that if you are unaware of this behaviour– you may fit a footer and end up with a very unsightly menu overspill – sadly an all too common occurence. I use it on my site, [Rain From Vermont](http://rain.xidus.net). It allows you to “extend” the containing element when you have a menu (or other nested box) that extends further than it should. It uses a cleared div, and a floated “prop” to push the foot of the page as far as it needs to go. Check the examples out, it’s easier to understand by seeing it.
