    Wow, I’m not happy with this. The given website updates automatically, so I noticed it this way, but I’ve three other websites based on this same design, so I have to recover them all after updating to 3.3.8.

    In particular the mobile view is seriously destroyed. I need to look into that thoroughly. But the most serious problem is the hamburger menu in mobile view. It is not working anymore.

    Was it really necessary to change this much in the code files of this new release? My child theme is kind of worthless now, I’m afraid.

    Btw, sorry for all your efforts, but I don’t really like the changes.

    • The top menu is no longer plain sticky anymore and that’s not very handy. Now every time you have to scroll up a bit, to make it visible again. In my opinion that’s not great usability.
    • Making the sidebar temporarely sticky when scrolling down, is not very handy either. It could be a nice feature when you have a very short sidebar, but when you’ve put a lot of information in that sidebar and you want people to see it all as quickly as possible, it’s just frustrating that it is ‘hanging’ this long.

    Could you make these changes optional please? That would be great.

  • I just discovered you actually MADE most of the changes optional. Thank you so very much for that!

    I’m playing with the options right now, so please put my post on hold for now..

    For other people dealing with the same issues, go in the WordPress backoffice to:

    Appearance > Customizer > Header Design > Header design: colors, mobile settings

    or

    Appearance > Customizer > Main Body Design > Sidebars: design and mobile settings

    I managed to solve most of the problems thanks to the theme’s customizer and some CSS rules I added to my child theme.

    Three (minor) issues remain though:

    1. Is there a way to skip the animation you built into the toggle button? The button with ‘<<‘ that is. That would be nice, because it seems it’s not working flawlessly all the time (sometimes it refuses to respond when clicked).

    2. It looks like you added some transparancy into the topbar menu. It ends up in a lighter color than I define in my stylesheet (or via the customizer). How to avoid that transparancy?

    3. I’d appreciate a setting for a solid, fixed topbar in the theme’s settings. I think the appearing / disappearing topbar while scrolling through the website is kind of disturbing for the visitors.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

    Can I ask how you made the hamburger menu work. When I click on it now nothing happens? I have some customer css to make the top menu sticky and to add the word menu to the mobile menu. I don’t think that is causing the problem because I removed it and the menu still didn’t work?

    What was it you tried.

    Cheers,
    Bobby

    You need to set a menu for mobile menu in customizer, make sure you select ‘Sitewide options’.

    Hi,

    That has been set to topbar. It was working ok before the update but now doesn’t appear when I click on the hamburger icon. Could be a conflict with a plug-in or css I had added before the update.

    Question here…I did not have a top bar before but now I am seeing a top bar with an old menu that I cannot figure out how to delete. That top bar has pushed my regular menu down and now it is all looking screwy http://conciergelibrarian.com/

    @plimfec thanks for your feedback

    If you are talking about the topbar toggle or the sidebar toggle, all the tests I’ve done on various devices gave good results for the moment, that’s why this has not been made optional. Can you confirm which toggle button you’re talking about : topbar or sidebar ? And on which devices or browser you observe those problems ?

    2. It looks like you added some transparancy into the topbar menu. It ends up in a lighter color than I define in my stylesheet (or via the customizer). How to avoid that transparancy?

    Yes the hexadecimal color is turned into a rgba color automatically when set. I agree, this can lead to confusion to not see exactly the color you have picked. I’m working on a solution for this.

    3. I’d appreciate a setting for a solid, fixed topbar in the theme’s settings. I think the appearing / disappearing topbar while scrolling through the website is kind of disturbing for the visitors.

    I agree, this option is missing. It will be added in the next version.

    @autonomyscotland @fashionableibrarian can you make sure that your mobile menu is set to a location which has a menu assigned ? You can set this in the customizer > Menus > Locations.
    Let me know if it helps

    Note : if you are using a cache plugin like Total Cache, make sure you clean your website cache.

    I am having the same issue. I am using Hueman on 2 sites and am having the problem with the mobile hamburger menu not opening or doing anything on mobile on one of my sites. It is functioning correctly on this site:

    http://www.engagement-wishes.com

    But it is not working properly on:

    http://www.anniversary-wishes.com

    I checked settings carefully, both have same plugins and same custom css in child theme. I tried clearing the cache (WP Super Cache) and made sure that both site’s menu locations are the same. Also, I have ensured that the mobile menu is set to a location that has a menu assigned.

    Still the problem persists on one site.

    I also noticed that the site (anniversary-wishes.com) which is having issues with the mobile hamburger menu not working still has a sticky menu in desktop. Whereas the other site (engagement-wishes.com) in which the mobile hamburger menu is working properly, the topbar menu is no longer sticky on scroll and disappears and reappears.

    @nikeo
    Thanks for you reply.

    The mobile menu is set to topbar and there is definitely a menu assigned to that location. I cleared my cache but still when I press the hamburger nothing opens up.

    About the hamburger menu not working, for me this solved that problem:

    • Go to: Appearance > Customizer > Header Design > Header design: colors, mobile settings
    • Scroll down and be sure you assign the right menu there, at least not an empty one.

    When you’re still having problems after you did this, I’m afraid I don’t know how to fix..

    @nicolas:

    I was talking about the toggle button for the sidebar and I was testing it in IOS / Safari and Windows 7 / Chrome.

    But testing it again today, I figure I exaggerated a bit by stating it’s ‘not working’. I guess I need to get used to the animation you built in. Because of that, the button’s respond is a bit slower than before. So forget about this issue, in the end it’s just personal taste I guess.

    – Thank you very much for picking up my other two issues (2 and 3).
    – Since you made it optional, I must say the ‘hanging sidebar’ is a great new feature for short sidebars (and shorter pages). Thank you for this.

    @plimfec thanks for your fix, but it still doesn’t work for me. Hoping @nikeo will provide a fix soon.

    For the hamburger menu I just copied header.php from Hueman to Child theme and it works.

    @msfndotorg That worked.

    I had a header php file in my childtheme. Just replaced that code with the new code as per your instructions. Then added analytics tracking code ects again. Menu working now with new header and smaller logo. Then I needed to clear cache to see changes.

    Cheers.
