2nd multisite with 2nd domain on one server: nogo

there is a warning after trying to convert my 2nd wp-installation in a 2nd domain on the same server: “an already existing network was found”
my intention:
domain1: multisite subdirectory (installation in root of domain1 – works perfectly)
domain2: multisite subdirectory (installation in root of domain2 – error message)how do i succeed?

follow-up to be more precise:
domain1 is an existing multilingual website
domain2 should host “PressBooks” which needs a clean new multisite installationi cannot imagine why this should not be possible:
two separate installations with separate wp-config.php and .htaccess,
two separate databases,
two separate domains – just placed on the same webserver.glad for any hint and help
