    Hi @pulsarinformatique,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Microsoft has recently updated their policies to remove Basic authentication, which affects users attempting to connect via their SMTP server using the “Other SMTP” mailer. Due to these changes, it is no longer possible to establish an SMTP connection with Microsoft servers using Basic authentication. This impacts SMTP plugins like ours as well as other software that relies on connecting to Microsoft services like Hotmail, Live, Outlook or Microsoft 365 over SMTP.

For more detailed information, please refer to the official Microsoft documentation: Deprecation of Basic Authentication. We have also published an article on our blog here.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and recommend configuring an alternative email provider or switching to a different mailer. You can explore all available mailer options here.

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Hi @pulsarinformatique,

I apologize for the inconvenience, but please be aware that the SMTP connection will no longer work even with an app password. This is due to a policy change on Microsoft’s side.

    Thank you for your understanding!

Hi So even WP Mail SMTP, which is OAuth 2.0 compatible, can no longer work with O365 if we have enabled the MFA ?

    thanks

    Hi @pulsarinformatique,

Thanks for your follow-up question and apologies for the confusion!

The limitation only happens with the “Other SMTP” mailer option which relies on the SMTP credentials, including the use of app password to connect with Microsoft-related email accounts such as Microsoft 365, Hotmail, Live, or Outlook even with the MFA (multi-factor authentication) option enabled. This is due to Microsoft’s policy changes, why they no longer support non-modern authentication methods SMTP connections.

The Microsoft 365 / Outlook mailer option however, will still work as this is based on the supported API-based OAuth connections to authenticate the connection with your Microsoft-related email accounts.

I hope this clears up any confusion. Thanks!
