Support » Fixing WordPress » Problem with menus and sidebars since upgrade to 4.6

  • I’m using AVADA 4.03. In the last day, since upgrading to WordPress 4.6, my website has lost all its sidebars and the main navigation menu is unusable (lost its structure, most of the menu items have gone and the links don’t work on the remaining items). I have also lost the details held on the Page Title Bar for each page. There may be other problems which I’ve not yet discovered.

It’s frustrating because not only is the website unusable, I am prevented from restoring sidebars to any of the pages, from re-creating the main navigation menu and recreating the Page Title Bar settings

I have disabled all the non AVADA plugins and found no difference. I would be grateful of any ideas!

It looks to me like the menu is not properly assigned under appearance->menus so you’re getting a list of all pages.

I haven’t seen other reports of problems like this with Avada, so I suspect something other than a theme/WP conflict is going on.

So…. let’s try the old tried and true. Please disable *all* plugins and see if the problem goes away. If so, turn them back on, on at a time, until you find the one that breaks things.

Hi Steve – thanks for responding. I have disabled all the plugins with no effect. Problem still there.

I don’t have Avada to look at, it’s a commercial theme. You should check with them to see if you’re at the latest version.

With respect to the menu, do you have the correct menu assigned under appearance->menus?

hmm…it seems the menu is not working at all.

Thanks again. The menu is assigned in the Appearance/menu as it always has been. I can delete items from that menu, but not add or amend it in any other way. The links have disappeared and I can’t put them back.

It seems quite radical to me – that the sidebars should disappear and the Page Title Bar settings.

I’m waiting for Avada support to come back to me. So far they have only suggested disabling plugins.

If you use a commercial theme or plugin and need support, please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

I have already contacted Theme Fusion and am waiting for their suggestion as the cause of the problem and an effective solution. I posted to this forum because I thought other people might have had similar problems. I apologise if I have wasted anyone’ time.

The only way we know if people are having problems is if they post, so no apologies wanted!

What happens when you refresh page, does the menu load fine?

    Hi Luke

Problem is the same when screen refreshed. It is not just main menu that’s corrupted. The sidebars have disappeared and the Page Title settings on every page. And I cannot change any of the settings to restore the look.

I am happy I found this topic. I have been having the same problem. Since I updated to 4.6 I have lost all my menus and also all categories to my posts. I cannot create new menus.
This is not related to the theme I am using, because the problem persists when I switch themes.
It is not related to any plugins, because I tried uninstalling plugin not used much and also deactivated all the rest.
    It still does not work.
The max_input_vars has been set to 9000 on the server, so this is not the problem either.

rsgreene: Please open a new topic for your issue rather than jumping on one that may or may not be the same problem. thanks.

To answer ‘rsgreene’ my problems were eventually found to be a corrupted table. It’s funny but it did coincide with the upgrade to WordPress 4.6. I used phpMyAdmin to run a repair on the table and all was well.

I also have problem with menu.
Whn I try to update menu I see this: Error after menu save

The problem is also that menu item saving, but on site still wrong menu. On the new site it is default.

After I downgraded to 4.5 menu works fine.
