Please have a look at the theme documentation to configure your website correctly. In order to place widgets on your front page, you need to create a static front page first and assign the widgetized Homepage template to your static front page.
will these steps work with MH lite?
Yes, of course, they are part of the basic theme configuration as stated in the theme documentation.
I will be able to do this safely without losing all of my content correct?
Your content is saved within your database and not within the theme. Configuring your WordPress theme correctly won’t result in loss of content.
You just need to create the static front page correctly (as stated in the theme documentation) and then place the widgets as you like, that’s it actually. 🙂
