@paul-hartman – Is the default WordPress user role administrator available in your installation? Also, what role are you logged in with when you see this message?

    Thanks!

Yes, there is an administrator role, and I am logged in as administrator. I installed the User Role Editor plugin to make sure all the NextGen capabilities were check-marked for Admin, and they are (10 of them). (I inherited this site from another administrator.) Website is http://www.thevpc.org

@paul-hartman – Are you using the WordPress default administrator role or one that was cloned from the administrator role with changes made to its capabilities?

Currently NextGEN Gallery only support the default WordPress roles as is.

    Thanks!

I’m not sure what happened before I took over this project. Is there a way to create a fresh Administrator role with default capabilities? User Role Editor plugin shows all Administrator capabilities enabled except “create_pages” and “create_posts” — I enabled those and still get the NextGEN msg. The role is listed as “Administrator (administrator)”

@paul-hartman – I’m not familiar with the inner workings of “User Role Editor” nor why someone would disable those capabilities for administrator roles?!

As to how to add a “fresh Administrator role”, I found this article with a quick search that might be of use: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-an-admin-user-to-the-wordpress-database-via-mysql/

I don’t know why “create_pages” and “create_posts” were disabled for Administrator — I could do both.

Fresh Administrator: I can create a new Administrator user using the WP dashboard, as usual. The NextGEN error message still appears when logged in as that new user.

I have exactly the same problem after migrating a website. Controlled php, mysql, added new administrator, removed NextGen Gallery and made a new, fresh install. However, the error message still appears and I don’t know anymore how to solve it. Did you find a solution already?

    (@paul-hartman)

No solution yet. It is interesting that we both migrated websites, perhaps that has something to do with it? I used ManageWP’s Clone feature to move an existing website to a staging site where I changed the theme and did some major changes and them Cloned back to the original site. I think the error message appeared after I Cloned to the staging site. It is still there after Cloning back to the original site.

@paul-hartman – Most migration issues can be resolved through one of two methods. The easiest is to clear the image cache under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous.

If that does not work, then try using the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options or you can use our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances, please let us know if it does.

    Thanks!

Clear Image Cache didn’t help. I am hesitant to Reset Options because I don’t know what options were changed by the previous administrator. I don’t know what options I need to restore after the reset. Is there a way to list everything that isn’t a default option?

@paul-hartman – Unfortunately there is no method aside from making a note of each accordion / page of options. It might help to take screen captures as needed. Although we are looking at some sort of import/export feature set for these options it is no where near any sort of timeline to even suggest when it might be available.

Thanks. I’ll have to write down everything when I have time and Reset Options.
