• Hi all,

Looking for your guidance on a few things:

    Facts:
    – My domain is currently registered on wordpress.com
    – I want to transfer to wordpress.org
    – My domain is with godaddy
    – I can’t seem to workout who my host is

    My questions:
    1) How do I go from wordpress.com to wordpress.org? I’d also been keen to know what to think about in terms of my hosting and domain name given the above
    2) Instead of installing wordpress.org, can I make changes to my website through the browser?
    3) I’d like to make my website interactive in the sense that I’d want scrolling effects and interactive infographics

    Thanks in advance,
    Karan

    1. WordPress.com has a great guide for that, just follow along at https://move.wordpress.com and read through https://codex.wordpress.org/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start too.

1b. You will need a hosting provider, someone you pay to host your WordPress.org site. There are a few mentioned at the beginning of the WordPress.com guide, and we have our own recommendations at https://wordpress.org/hosting/

    2. You don’t install WordPress.org on your computer, it’s web software. You install it on a hosting provider, and then use your browser to work with it.

    3. That’s an order of magnitude more complicated. How about you get your site setup with self-hosted WordPress.org first (with it installed on your hosting provider, the domain pointing to it, and everything as close as you can get it to the current WordPress.com site), then open up a new thread to revisit this point.
