I’m requesting a backup restore for my site, but I still want to be able to update Wordfence.

    Hi TAB04,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Temporarily renaming the ‘wordfence’ folder (at wp-content/plugins/wordfence/) should allow you to use the site again, but we may need more detail to find the issue.

Do you have multiple sites installed in this hosting account? If so, are any of the other sites running Wordfence an older version of Wordfence?

Same issue for me; I renamed the wordfence folder and the site came up again but I would love to continue using wordfence.

I have several sites on my account in sub folders and they are still on the previous version but I’d hesitate to update wordfence on these given the result I had on this one,

Same here on a single site installation.

Tried to update or even upload version 6.1.11 via ftp. Same result

Same here also! Something has run amuck with the update!

    the error:

Fatal error: Class ‘wfWAFConfig’ not found in /home/mysitename/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceClass.php on line 725

The only way I could fix was a backup install. Grrrr!

And here too with all websites on automatic update! Had to rename plugin folder as a temporary measure but now, of course, no security at all!

Will turn off automatic updates – bad not to know sites are down. Sites not automatically updated are running fine.

same problem here, blank screen on update. I dont see any error, just white screen with a cut in the html code.

    Same problem in my site…
Fatal error: Class ‘wfWAFConfig’ not found

Hope you can fix this soon

add me to the list. I get the same fatal error on line 725

I’ve used FTP to remove the wordfence folder from the plugin folder and I’m running again – without wordfence…

Add me to the list. All worked fine until today. My office began getting a numerous amount of calls about customers not being able to access the site. Wordfence was auto updated last night and brought down ALL of my businesses websites. Renaming the WF directory allowed me to get my sites back online.

Would like a fix ASAP, and yes I am a paying WordFence customer…..

AND I am disabling auto-update for WordFence. This is not the first time I have had to do this…

    same problem here…

    renaming wordfence fixed the problem.

will there be a fix soon?

    Hi all,

Sorry for the trouble in updating Wordfence on your sites. Our dev team is looking into this. We’ve found that if you have multiple sites in a single hosting account and the firewall optimization was only completed on some of the sites, and only some of the sites have been updated, that may be the cause.

Specifically, if you have sites in your hosting account folders like this:
/home/user/public_html/ (firewall optimized, still running 6.1.10 or earlier)
/home/user/public_html/site2.com/ (firewall not optimized, updated to 6.1.11)

Then, the site2.com could have this issue because the firewall from the first site in the public_html directory is running before the newer version of Wordfence in the site2.com subdirectory.

If your sites are set up like that:
    * Update the Wordfence installation on the first site (in public_html/ in the example above), and the sites in the subdirectories should work normally.
    * Alternately, you can temporarily remove the firewall optimization on the first site, so sites in subdirectories will not have part of the older version pre-loaded.

If your sites are not set up like that:
    * Create a separate post in this forum instead of replying to this one, so we can work through the details of your site if there is another cause. Please include specifics of the sites, like subdirectory names — you can replace actual domain names with ‘domain1.com’ and similar. WFMattR, just to let you know that this sorted the problem for me.

    Hi all,

Version 6.1.12 should fix this issue for anyone who has not resolved it yet. There was an additional case with individual sites (without subdirectories) that could also cause it.

If anyone still has issues with this, please create a new post by clicking here and using the form at the bottom of the page. Thanks!

Wordfence staff: please, can you create a PHP constant to force-disable auto-updates of Wordfence via hardcoded PHP ?

    Like: define(‘AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED’, true );

Please … I have > 170 websites going randomly offline because file permissions for Wordfence seems OK to update, but they are not.
