I have two sites. one I have taken over and one I created myself (which eventually will become the main site)

The original site works perfect but on the new site I created, every internal link opens in a new tab. I know it has to do with target=”_self” and target=”_self”, but I have no idea which php file I have to alter.
Can someone please put me in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance.

  • All your links have target=”_blank”. These can be done on a per-post basis via the link editor but otherwise isn’t default behaviour. I’d suggest this is either a plugin or the theme.

Try switching the theme for a standard one (e.g. Twenty Sixteen) and see if the problem goes away. If not, try deactivating all your plugins in one go.

    Thanks for the answer

deaktivated all plugins, cleared cache … but still the same behaviour.

switched to a standard theme and it worked. Thanks

so it looks like the theme(SuperNews) and I will contact them.

    thanks again

Brilliant – glad you found it. I tried the demo of the SuperNews theme and it didn’t do this, so it may be an option hidden away in the Theme settings.

oops … I found the cause (by following your advice) – but I didn’t find the exact answer.

I’ve also written to acmethemes for possible help. In the meantime I am going through every single php file of the site and look for <targe=”_blank”>
(I am sure there is an easier way to do thia – but I am a computer illiterate)-

I’ll post it, if (IF) I get the answer ………
… or throw everything into a corner and leave it be (grin)
