• The front page on my website needs page nav or needs to be linked to a category. I am using the simple mag theme in wordpress. The guy who set up my website made the first tab a page instead of a category, like the rest of the tabs on the menu.

It is a blog, so the section that is a front page needs to have other pages where similar posts are with page nav to the next page of post. I know a page is not meant to have this function and I am guessing they did it this way due to the customized slider on the front page.

If anybody knows how to help me fix this, please let me know. The front page needs to either be link to a category so it can have multi pages without changing the layout or theme.

    Website is herhiphopla.com

  • Are you referring to the “Her Tea” menu item that is linked to your home page?

You can change that yourself IF the person who setup your website used the built-in “Menus” function in WP.

Go to Appearance>Menus and see if you see any menus created there (usually you’ll find a ‘top’ menu and a ‘bottom’ menu (for the footer) but they may be named something else)……if you find one that is your Top navigation, then you can add a “category” menu item from the left (to the category you want) and name the label the same (if you like) “Her Tea”. WP will add it at the bottom but you can drag it to the top, and then remove the one you *don’t* want (click to expand it, then click on the link that says ‘remove’.

Then your new link will go to the category page for whatever category you selected.

If he did NOT use the built-in menus, we will need more info to help you, but my guess is that’s where you’ll find and fix it.

@trisham yes i have seen that section before i believe it is there. but will this take away my front page? or will this just link them? I like the front page i just need it to have more than one page. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm Okay now I think maybe I did not understand your question initially…..when you say you need the ‘front page to have more than one page’……do you mean you need a ‘see older posts’ navigation at the bottom of the front page? And then it should go to your blog archives page?

If that’s the case you’ll most likely need to modify the template file used for the front page in order to insert either a ‘navigation’ block of code there or simply a link to the blog category……but depending on your comfort level with modifying template files (after backing them up of course!) then it could be easy or tricky.

Is there any chance you can ask the guy who setup your website to add that? For any even remotely capable web developer, it’s a simple 2 minute task, so he should be able to do it quickly and cheaply, if not free.

If I’m still misunderstanding, I apologize…..Initially I thought you just wanted your “her tea” menu item that is to your home page to be a link to your blog archives (category) page so people could peruse older posts…..in which case all you’d be doing is changing where that menu item links to.

@trisham doing that just added two Her Tea’s to the menu.

Two address your second post…Yes! that is what i need to do. But since the web designer who i had to fired, made the front page a “page” instead of a category i do not know how to do this.
