• In recent weeks or months, I have frequently had WP to Twitter auto-tweets refused along with the following explanation:

403 Forbidden: The request is understood, but has been refused by Twitter. (Error Code: 186: Status is over 140 characters.)

I have not changed any of the code which used to work fine – always automatically truncating tweets to 140 characters. Now they frequently fail as above.

It’s an annoyance that somewhat defeats the main utility of the plug-in, though the tweets at least can still be edited via the metabox, and eventually sent. Some Tweets that appear as though they ought to fail – e.g., because their tags if not partially removed would exceed charaacter limits – don’t.

To be a bit more specific – the failure seems to be occurring in relation to the #tags# tag. Long titles seem to be getting truncated as before.

Hmm. That’s curious – can you send me a specific example of a Tweet text that was rejected (multiple examples would be great)? You can post them here if you wish, but I’d prefer them via the support form built-in to the plug-in, if possible.

I’ll collect the next few that occur – may take a few days – but would be a lot easier and more dependably accurate than any effort to re-construct past instances.

FYI, in case it matters to you in the meantime, the template I’ve been using is as follows:

    #category#: "#title#" #url# \[\[tweeps\]\] #tags#

I don’t believe I changed default “Advanced Settings.” \[\[tweeps\]\] is usually empty (but seems to be character-counted anyway (as six characters)).

Aaargh – not sure how to escape the double brackets around “tweeps”!
