How to change admin url in wordpress?
-
Hi guys.
How can I change admin URL in WordPress without any plugin,so I wouldn’t have to re-change it again later on every WordPress’s update?
-
why? security != obscurity
The only person that I could find claiming to have a solution for this without a plugin is the first post here:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-change-the-admin-url-or-wp-admin-to-secure-login?replies=13For the record, there is a lot of debate on this subject:
- Is it really worth doing?
- Will some plugins break when you do this?
jonradio: I was just about to edit my response to add that link!
sterndata: I did not see your post until after I’d hit the Post button.
its not work for me. I used Ngnix as a webserver.
How can I change admin URL in WordPress
Don’t. It will break things in horrible and crippling ways.
without any plugin
That’s even worse.

There really is no way to change the
/wp-admin/
path and there is no point in doing so.So Jan, you mean, its not work? and its better that I will never try to change it?
My site is:
http://www.imanvfx.com/wp-admin/but I want to change the wp-admin to something like it:
http://www.yasdl.com/wp-admin/Everyone, including me, misunderstood you. We thought you wanted to change the “wp-admin” part, as in http://www.imanvfx.com/wp-admin/ to http://www.imanvfx.com/myownadmin/
If I understand you correctly, you want to change http://www.imanvfx.com/wp-admin/ to http://www.yasdl.com/wp-admin/ WITHOUT changing the home page URL, so it still is http://www.imanvfx.com
I don’t believe that is possible, even with a plugin.
@RezaY,
Floow @jan’s recommendations π
if yow want to change admin url you have to open your database table “wp_options” and change http://www.imanvfx.com to http://www.yasdl.com…..
And will break things. In horrible and crippling ways. Please do not recommend people hurt themselves. π
@mohammad983 If you make that change then your URLs will change also for your whole installation.
We thought you wanted to change the “wp-admin” part, as in http://www.imanvfx.com/wp-admin/ to http://www.imanvfx.com/myownadmin/
Its exactly what I mean π Actually I want to rename the login URL.
So You and Jan are suggesting that I had better not changing the wp-admin’s address even with some plugins like this.And about http://www.yasdl.com/wp-admin/ , It is just an example. Because its login URL is different from the default login Worrdpress page . and I dont know how can I do something like that!
I’d like then to return to:
How can I change admin URL in WordPress without any plugin,so I wouldn’t have to re-change it again later on every WordPress’s update?
The premise is backwards. The way to make the change so that you don’t have to re-do it later after every WordPress update *is* to use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/lockdown-wp-admin/ or https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-wp-security/ (and several others like them).
Plugins don’t suddenly disappear with updates. When you update WordPress with a plugin functioning, that plugin will continue to function after the update (generally, most of the time, if the plugin is not poorly written).
On the other hand, if you were to instead directly modify a core file (do it without a plugin), then that modified core file will be replaced during the update, therefore completely removing your modification every single update.
Why exactly do you need to do this without a plugin?
@sterndata –
why? security != obscurityI do not agree with this statement. Security has a lot to do with obscurity.
Wordpress particularly gets hit by a lot of bots (not humans) which roam the web for /wp-admin/ and then try default ‘admin’ and go to town on brute forcing. A lot of the WordPress sites I host get hacked often because of poorly coded plugins or because of /wp-admin/ and it would be wonderful to change the URL.
I believe vBulletin and others have been doing this since day one. But that’s just my two cents.
