• I’ve used EWWW Optimizer for the longest time, but in the past 6 months I had an issue with the pngout extension that had previously been part of the plugin.
So I did some searches, tried out Imagify Image Optimizer, which seems like a great plugin, but I was never able to try it out due to signup issues for their required API access code; which of course is free, but I had to wait 3-4 days for their support to contact me, and as many of their plugin’s reviews will show, when something goes wrong, their first initiative is to ask for admin and FTP access. And though I do use a security plugin, I’m not a fan of allowing others FTP.
I also tried out ShortPixel Image Optimizer, which allows you 100 free image optimization credits each month. My site currently has 400 images (ie, photos, logos, icons) on it, so nope.
Now I am a big fan of the TinyPNG website, so I always upload images and let the website do it’s work. Awesome results in regards to reducing file sizes, and for the most part, the images have good quality (I wouldnt recommend compressing the image more then 2 times).
But then I came across Bulk WP Smush, which so far has been pretty awesome. Easy to use, and response times are extremely fast. Plugin authors have several other reputable WordPress plugins as well as articles on their website to make the plugins work.
From the 400 images that were previously compressed by the TinyPNG website, then uploaded to my website (http://www.MickeyMouseAthletics.com), after “bulk-smushing” my images, max of 50 at a time, I saved 6.73 MB, which may not seem like much for 400 images, but I’m happy with it.
Overall, great plugin, easy to use, with no drawbacks, very resourceful website to provide info on what to do after activating their plugins.
