When clicking on a calendar day that only has 1 event, and the option “Show single event?” is active, then you’re redirected to the single event page.
If your single event has a redirect to an external url and you don’t want that redirect, you could deactivate the option “Use external url for single events or locations?”
I let this lapse for a while…thanks for your response. Let me clarify what’s happening.
1) I’ve created an event, the only event for that day on the calendar widget…and “show single event” is active.
2) I’ve added a url in the section entitle “External Link” on the event itself. “If this is filled in, the single event URL will point to this url instead of the standard event page.”
3) The events page, listing all the upcoming events, links correctly to the external URL.
4) The link on the calendar widget (only event for that day) does not link to the external URL, but links to the single event page.. This is the problem. I need the calendar widget to link to the external URL.

Did you activate the option “Use external url for single events or locations?”

Confirmed as a bug and fixed here (a one-character fix in fact …):
https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/1454522/
hmmm, so I updated to 1.6.16 but the problem persists…

As you can clearly see in the readme.txt in that change, it is for 1.6.17
Ah, OK…well 1.6.17 is not available yet. https://wordpress.org/plugins/events-made-easy/
Thanks for fixing that.
Sorry if I’m misunderstanding you or missing something, but I have no idea how to update to 1.6.17 to take advantage of your edit. Will that be in the next update or something?
Thanks,

1.6.17 is not released yet. Either wait for it or apply the mentioned change yourself already.
