Enable Email Lockout Notifications

I wonder if I should bother ticking this check box in Global settings to receive notifications, because no matter what prevention settings are enabled, I get email lockout notifications jamming up my inbox. Over 1000 emails arrived, even though I have banned users using admin as a user name, and enabled every single available settings in the dashboard.
There seems nothing to stop attacks. This plugin is not stopping hackers attempts and I am being diverted from my work, wasting my time deleting thousands of notification emails. What can be done? Disable the notifications? So I just wait until my site gets hacked and then I will soon find out?
