• Password protection for pages is not working. Entering the password just causes the password page to re-appear. I have re-installed WordPress, disabled all plug-ins and changed the theme to twentysixteen without resolving the issue. The site is hosted by hostgator, their support team has not been able to identify the cause.

Link to example page is below, the password is yodelPickle!

try changing the password to just “abc123” and let see if that makes a difference.

changing the password to abc123 did not make a difference

Same here – using the latest WordPress version and our password-protected page doesn’t respond to the correct password, just reloads the password form on submit…

This used to work fine so must have got something to do with an update of sorts? Any ideas?

Please disable *all* plugins and change the theme to twentysixteen. Do you still have the problem? If not, re-enable things one at a time until you find what breaks your site.

(Yes, this is a pain, but it’s a useful methodology.)

Disabling all plugins and changing the theme to twentysixteen does not resolve the issue. It still reloads and asks for the password again

Same on a different host, but only with one of my sites. Another site works fine. Disabled all plugins, changing theme, did not work.

Uhhh, same exact issue on Hostgator. Have tried disbaling all plugins, changing passwords, making sure the password is correct in myPHP (it is), even resetting to a standard .htaccess (using BPS Security) and no dice. Have absolutely no idea what could cause this, and it just started happening recently out of the blue. Other installations I’ve done that use the same theme and setup seem perfectly fine.

I just installed the update to WordPress 4.6 and the issue is still present.

I’ve found that, on my Mac, the issue was occurring on Firefox and Safari browsers, but on Chrome it worked as it should. Dug a little deeper and cleared any cookies stored from the site I’m working on in Firefox and Safari. That worked for Firefox, but the problem still occurred in Safari. When I logged in to my site’s back end using Firefox and visited the page, I was greeted by the password prompt again which was weird because I had already entered it when not logged in to the back end. I entered the password and the problem returned.
