Permissions required for the SEO Framework

    I just installed the SEO Framework plugin, and I’m wondering what its requirements are to be fully operational. For instance at our site plugins can’t create or modify files on the server. In our wp-config.php file, we have included the line define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT',true); In our server directory (running under Linux), the robots.txt file is owned by our Linux user and the file is only writable by that user.

    Glancing over the configuration settings for your plugin, I’m assuming that the section on “Robots Meta Settings” is supposed to modify the robots.txt file, and given our site’s configuration this section doesn’t do anything.

    In addition to the robot.txt information, are our sites permissions and configuration causing us to miss out on any other functionality provided by your plugin?

    Hi debplatt,

    I hope you’re doing well.

    The plugin doesn’t write anything to disk :). All files, like the robots.txt file and the sitemap.xml file, are “virtual”. This means they’re there because of “magic”, or simply WordPress Rewrite Rules :).

    This means you won’t be missing out on any settings.

    If the robots.txt file doesn’t change on the settings adjustment, I assume you’re using object caching. Please see if clearing that cache will change its output.

    A more in-debt answer, covering related terms:
    If, however, your theme is using old standards regarding the title output, you might miss an option to remove the Title Additions. This setting is named “Remove Blogname from Title”. You can add that feature back using the Title Fix extension plugin.

    If any other features are missing, you’ll be notified on the spot within the settings. This only happens when another popular Open Graph/Twitter/Sitemap/Etc. plugin is detected.

    This excludes a very select group of plugins that have added compatibility towards The SEO Framework. When this happens, a minuscule notification is also placed within the settings.
