It seems this doesn’t work on Multisite. When enabled (either network-enabled or single-site-enabled), the SVG upload is accepted, but not displayed. Then, the media is served as mime type “image/svg” instead of “image/svg+xml” as it should be.

I can’t figure this out, yet, but maybe you can solve it before I can.

It seems part of the problem is ms-files.php, which my WPMS is still using (since I launched my Multisite before WordPress 3.5).

Thus, I found this post that describes and offers a plugin to migrate away from the archaic ms-files.php: https://www.yunomie.com/2298/removing-ms-files-php-after-upgrading-an-existing-multisite-installation-to-3-5/

Sure enough, it’s a problem with ms-files.php. Thus, it seems the best solution for me is to migrate my site away from ms-files.php. That’ll take some work, but overall probably worth it.

Yup. That was exactly the problem. ms-files.php on WordPress multisite doesn’t properly handle the mime type for svg. Thus, moving away from ms-files.php fixed it for me.
