Slider layers go below the slider

I have two issues with this slider:

1. There are about 2000 lines of internal CSS on the page with the slider. This is not best practices for CSS.

2. The content under the slider was being pushed way down the page with a big white gap between the slider and the rest of the content. Using Firebug, I determined that the slider has a layer that is creating this large gap. I was able to overcome the gap visually by adding a negative margin on the lower layer, but this is a duct tape and baling twine solution, not a real solution.
