how to recover pictures from back up?

    I was not able to get the sql back up but I was able to use the xml backup unlucky for me those don’t upload pictures

    I did download wp-content/upload/2016/05

    How do I upload those so that they go back to their right place and I don’t have to do all that work ?

    If you have the images from the upload folder then simply place that in the same location on your new installation. Use Tools -> Import to them restore the posts/pages from the XML backup. This should work and posts will display correctly. However, the media library won’t show anything as they won’t be in the database – there are a number of plugins available that will help you to rebuild the media library.
