• Ok… I tried hunting around for somebody else having already done this, and upon not finding anything I decided to do it myself. I used the excerpt field as an img with a thumbnail, and then modified the index to only show the excerpt for previous posts (I haven’t made enough entries yet to show all the previous ones). I had to remove wpautop from the filters for the_excerpt, and changed my number of posts displayed per page to 6. I’m absolutely terrible at making templates, so I just hacked up one of the ones from the competition (added in a credit at the bottom of the page)
Check it out, comments welcome! Obviously it’s still a work in progress:

  • hum.. interesting thing… contact me in email, i’d like to take a look at your changes and maybe make a hack of it to enable such option without having to modify WP completely…

I’ve already thought about shortening the page height so that (at least in 1024×768) you don’t need to scroll… I just have to get around to makign up a decent stylesheet for it – right now I just hacked up one of the ones from the stylesheet competition 🙂

basically, to make it a “module” for wordpress, you need to use the default design, so all the other CSS will work with it. you can add some css thingies, but not modify the existants… adding css things is easier than modify the content.
i’ll take a look in the evening, maybe we can have a complete module with album recognition by the week-end.. 😉

How are you displaying the thumbnails in the proper proportions? I understand that one can use a joavascript for that…
    Thanks!

I liked it, too. I want is as a WP module 😉

VERY nice — I’ll pitch in and help writing up the module if you’re pressed for time or what have you — just let me know.

peg, I thought you wrote were no computer person, i.e. no programming skills?
and btw, here’s a VERY nice photoblog :

In fact, I just decided that it’s the nicest of them all, ever! Tee-Hee. Except for the one I am making of course.

Mike: I actually custom make all my thumbnails… it’s a trick I stole from http://www.photojunkie.ca – I basically just find an interesting 120×90 chunk to pull out of my original picture. (You might notice that the thumbnails have the same scale as the full images). That way the thumbnail is more of a “teaser” than a giveaway of the whoel picture 🙂

Nice. I see you’re using Ian (e-lusion.com)’s skin. Looks great.

For the thumbnail, I just put an img tag into my excerpt field for the entry. Then I took off the formatting for the excerpts, and just put the excerpt text in there.
