In my WordPress media folder I have images uploaded for posts through the wordpress admin, and I also have images that are saved in there from my front end uploaded by users.

The images uploaded from the front end by users are not displayed or viewable in the media library in the wordpress admin area. There are about 50,000 images in the folder in total, 9,000 are in the media library, there other 41,000 are uploaded by users at the front end.

When I run EWWW Image Optimizer it only does the 9,000 that are visible in the media library, yet in this folder there are 50,000 images.

How can I get it to do the whole folder and all the images within that?

Put the folder into the Folders to Optimize setting, and then run the Scan & Optimize from the Bulk Optimize page. Once it’s complete, you’ll want to turn on Scheduled Optimization if those user uploads are not being optimized automatically.

Make sure to only turn it on AFTER the Scan & Optimize is complete, or you might accidentally be double optimizing your images.

I have done this, but instead of it just doing this one folder it seems to have gone back and is doing the whole folder which this is in, which includes lots of other folders of which there are thousands of images.

I only want it to do this one folder and although the folder is in the settings to be optimised something is going wrong somewhere…

The search is recursive, so make sure you enter the exact folder you want optimized. It will not re-optimize anything that has already been processed, so no need to worry about that. It will just query the database, and show the results from the previous optimization.
