The developers added in that error handling in one of the last updates so that folks would have a clear indication if there were issues, but they did see that there were cases in which all use of the plugin shouldn’t have been blocked. They are reviewing this over on Github: https://github.com/humanmade/backupwordpress/issues/1030
I added a note there specifically about your issue and will update you when we have more news on a resolution, okay?
Kat
Hey there – if you are still experiencing issues and want to work through more troubleshooting, please let me know and we can reopen this ticket.
Anyone else having this issue please start a new topic on the support forums, okay?
Thanks so much and I’m going to mark this resolved pending further notice. Only because there hasn’t been an update – because we are still working on this issue and can use feedback from other users to help solve it!
Kat
Hi Kat,
Yes, this is still an issue I am experiencing.
Basically, I have this issue on a big WordPress site with lots of media and also (seperately) a some Multisite installations.
I have the multisite configured to just backup the database which is actually quite small – plenty of space on the server for that, it’s just the uploads directory which is massive.
However, when I try to do the database backup it says “Your server only has 9 GB of disk space left which probably isn’t enough to complete a backup.”
So even though I am only trying to do a database backup, it must be assuming I’m trying to backup everything if it thinks that 9GB is not enough space.
Once that message appears, it persists and I cannot get back to the main backups screen without rolling back the plugin to a previous version.

Ben –
Thank you for checking back in. I’m noting this for the developers and they might have further questions.
Can you also tell me – if you deactivate and then reactivate the plugin, are you able to (even briefly) access the settings page at all?
If not, then it’s taking the default backup schedules (and file size of the files or complete backup) and saying there’s not enough room. I might have a workaround for that, if that’s the case. Can you check for me?
Kat
HI Kat,
If I deactivate and reactivate the plugin, the message persists and I am still not able to access the settings.
Ben
Would you be up to enabling support on one of the sites you’re having trouble with and sending us a message that way so we can see a little more of the site information?
You can follow this guide on how to do so: https://bwp.hmn.md/support-center/enable-support
Thanks and I’m sorry, again, for the inconvenience!
Kat
Hi Kat,
I just tried enabling support to review what information it would send but it failed to load the popup on my multisite install.
I think the reason was it is try to load AJAX from http://example.com/wp-admin/network/admin-ajax.php
instead of from http://example.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
(without the “network” in the URL)
Ben
Well crud @husobj … can you drop me a line to backupwordpress@hmn.md and reference this thread for me? I can have you pull some information that might help me in help you solve this. *fingers crossed*
Thanks
Kat
I am experiencing this same issue. My backup is only 700mb.
Your server only has 20 GB of disk space left which probably isn’t enough to complete a backup. Try deleting some existing backups or other files to free up space.
Any progress on this?
Thank you — Richard
Hi there! I have the same problem. Already enabled the support and sent you a message.
Thank you for such a great plugin – Davor
Hi
I have same issue till I am using Version 3.6.2.
Getting message : Your server only has 8 GB of disk space left which probably isn’t enough to complete a backup. Try deleting some existing backups or other files to free up space.
but I have enough space now.
Any solution ?
Thanks
Hey there @sanjay-devrepublic – did you see if updating the plugin helped your situation out? The 3.6.3.1 update should have fixed this bug. Let me know what you find.
Thanks,
Kat
The issue is fixed for me now in version 3.6.3.1
Thank you
Ben
Awesome! Thanks for checking back in @husobj!
