The initial name for this plugin was “AutoDescription”, when it did just that: Generate a simple page description on the fly for each post and page which was complying to the SERP guidelines.
Over time, as the plugin evolved into much more and I had to think of a better name, so “The SEO Framework” evolved. The plugin directory name can’t be changed, unless I re-release it. Which I have thought of doing, but it would’ve caused more harm than good.
I’ve heard this question a couple of times, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter :).

Another example of this is Yoast SEO, where the WordPress repository slug has remained the old plugin name of wordpress-seo, despite their plugin name change a few years.
