Have already installed TablePress and have many existing tables. Now I need to install tablepress-automatic-url-conversion extension but when I attempt to do so I get “Extension Installation Error: Destination folder already exists” error. How do I install the Automatic URL Conversion extension without losing all my existing tables?

    Hi,

thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

How exactly are you trying to install that Extension? From that error message, it appears that you have already installed it previously?
Can you maybe check via FTP?

And no worries, you will not lose your tables by installing/removing Extensions. The tables are stored in the database and will not be affected by this.

    Hi Tobias,
Thanks for your quick response. OK, I verified that the extension installed.

But when I create a link in my Excel spreadsheet in a cell, and then save it and import it as an XLS or XLSX I do not see the link in my TablePress table. (I went back and clicked the cell link in Excel and verified that it worked.)

Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?

Also, is there a way to preserve other formatting I have done in Excel such as bold, italics, and font sizes?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I’m afraid that this is not what the Extension can do. It can only convert text URLs into clickable URLs. Importing actual links, as well as formatting (bold, italics, font sizes, colors, etc.) from Excel into TablePress is not possible. For that latter, you will need to use “Custom CSS” code for which you can find examples in the TablePress FAQ at https://tablepress.org/faq/

For the links, you’ll need to make sure that they are HTML code already, as that’s the only format that a browser can understand. Depending on your links are set up in the Excel file, a macro might help with this: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/hyperlinks-in-cells?replies=6#post-4710730

    Regards,
    Tobias
