How to code for dynamically updating widgets?

    I’ve got some users who are complaining that a dynamically updating widget of mine isn’t updating. I’m guessing it has to do with caching. I read about the DONOTCACHEPAGE constant, but it has to be defined at the very top of the page, and as a plugin developer, I don’t know if I can force that into the top of a user’s page.

    Any advice, guidance, best practice you can provide to a plugin developer for selectively displaying data that is not cached would be very appreciated.
