I’m sure this is a great plugin for smaller files. I have some 3Mb PNGs for full-screen background images and plugin just crashes and burns. Tried individual and bulk – no go. Individual sends me to a 404 page after a bit, and bulk says “temporary failure – trying again in 30” but it never does anything.

WPSmush doesn’t work either, so I guess I need to look at something else on the front end for these large files.

Too bad, was hoping to see something cool here.

A 3MB PNG file should be converted to a JPG. There is no way that PNG is the most efficient format for those background images. The reason it crashes and burns is because your server can’t handle the amount of time it takes to optimize the image, which is probably somewhere around 5 minutes (could be even longer, just a rough estimate).

UPDATE: I forgot to mention the HOW of doing that though. If you do it with the regular options, the PNG optimization will still kick in and make it take WAY too long. So the trick is to disable PNG compression, and attempt the PNG 2 JPG conversion on those images.
I haven’t yet figured out a way to mimic this on the Cloud API yet, but it’s on my todo list.
