I don’t want to leave a bad review as I don’t exactly know what caused the issue.

Installed W3 Total Cache then days later installed Clear Cache for Me as I was hoping for a one click Clear All in top menu bar. (never found the button and forgot it was installed)

Found W3 Total Cache was incompatible with features in my theme so I deactivated then uninstalled (leaving Clear Cache for Me active) and was instantly locked out of all admin areas with ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS message.

    Front end still worked fine.

Uploaded via ftp default wordpress .htaccess – this gave me access to wp-admin (I was still logged in as admin) but I could not go anywhere – every admin page said “not found” – used back button to logged in wp-admin each time – finally refreshed the page and got the ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS again.

There had been no other additions or alterations to other plugins.

    I found
Disable/Enable All WordPress Plugins via the Database
    http://support.hostgator.com/articles/specialized-help/technical/wordpress/disableenable-all-wordpress-plugins-via-the-database

Disabled all plugins via database – which gave me access to admin – turned them all back on again except Clear Cache for Me.

Admin area is working perfectly again.

Perhaps I should have deactivated/uninstalled Clear Cache for Me before W3 Total Cache?

Above was a word of caution rather than seeking answers – not going to try the combination again.

    Hi,

Thank you for not jumping to conclusions and blaming this plugin in the reviews. I appreciate it.

Let me explain why this plugin should not be the cause of the your problems. First, the Clear Cache For Me plugin does not run if it does not find any supported caching plugins. If you reinstall and active the plugin now (without any caching plugins), you’ll see no change to your site. Second, it does not do any redirects at all.

W3 Total Cache and other caching plugins alter your .htaccess file and your browser cache. This plugin does not touch the .htaccess file or your browser cache.

Looking around the web, it seems W3 Total Cache does not completely uninstall itself. Others have had troubles with it after uninstalling. There’s many tutorials on how to remove it. here are a couple search results:

I think in your case, after uploading the default .htaccess maybe you just needed to clear your browser cache.

In any case, thanks for posting here and not in the reviews. Hopefully others will find this useful.

Did all the Empty Cache and Hard reload of browser and even tried Edge (that I never use) – so it was not a local cache thing.

I eventually found uninstall guides for W3 Total Cache

I posted this information up on W3 Total Cache support area as well then had a read around – general consensus there is that plugin has been abandoned from development and the “updates” of recent times have been just a shuffle of the help files to give appearances of ongoing development. It is clashing with more and more popular plugins and not holding up well with latest php.

I suggest you investigate this yourself – you may wish to disassociate yourself from that product. This was the 2nd time, on different websites, I have lost many hours chasing and resolving issues. I have W3 Total Cache running well on an older php environment but will remove it from there as well for fear of future incompatibilities.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

wow interesting. I found they haven’t really been responsive to their customers either, even paying ones. Thanks for the heads up!
