Had high hopes for this plugin as to enhance the RSS to email updates to subscribers to include a thumbnail image inline and aligned left with text wrap in post summery/excerpt, except that the feed appears to include an image above the summary (settings for reading set to summary) – I also noted that the word count set in the plugin appears to be working as it’s longer than the non-plugin RSS feed for Mailchimp, and that there is a longer link (title with read more) but sadly the same image is large and appears in each of the 4 RSS items set to display via the MailChimp code/tag as noted:

    *|FEEDBLOCK:http://www.worldrider.com/blog/feed|*
    *|FEEDITEMS:[$count=4]|*
    *|FEEDITEM:TITLE|*

    Posted by *|FEEDITEM:AUTHOR|* on *|FEEDITEM:DATE|*

    *|RSSITEM:CONTENT|*

Seems weird, but this is what’s happening. Desired result? simply the featured image thumbnail aligned left with text wrap around the post excerpt.

    Thanks!

Your raw feed is showing your thumbnail images at the proper size and alignment. My suspicion is that you’ve been bit by the new MailChimp setting mentioned on the FAQ page, as I believe they’ve put that on by default, and it’s forcing small images to be the full width of the email, instead of just shrinking large images.

I have reported this issue to MailChimp and had hoped they would fix it, but for now, I am recommending that users of this plugin, at least, disable that setting, as it’s not needed, and, in your case, doing unhappy things to your feed. You’ll find it on the first setup screen on your campaign, the one where you put in your RSS feed. Hope that helps–

Wow, thanks Robin. I have been working on an existing campaign and didn’t even bother looking at RSS settings as this template has been active for many months.

So that button was checked by default, and deselecting brought the image to the correct size.

I did notice something else, however. The RSS Items (I’ve got 4 selected to show as you can see above) are all the same. That is, that same image and text is repeated for all the items (content) yet the Post Title is correct. Is there something I’m missing here? Thanks!

Okay Robin, I figured this out. Seems that MailChimp has been changing some of its tags, in my case once called RSSITEM is now called FEEDITEM — this solved the problem of duplicating the content. I see they have changed tag names in some other areas that I’m not using, but other plugin users modifying existing or older RSS -> MAIL templates may want to refresh RSS tags.

Thanks for sharing the link! Yes, MC has more than one set of RSS tags, and I find it confusing myself.

Glad you got your issue sorted!
