2.8.4 defaults to noindex, no follow?

  • More of an FYI than a question but while trying to work out why new WP sites were not being indexed I discovered that the default Privacy setting for 2.8.4 sites (installed via Fantastico) is ‘I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors’ which puts a noindex, nofollow statement in the page source.

Not a problem if you’re a aware of this but a real bummer if you’re not!

Would have thought it more appropriate to default to the opposite?

  • That could be specific to Fantastico. Or even specific to particular hosts running Fantastico.

You did check the privacy setting in the admin panel you say?

You could opt for an alternative host?
