  • Hi,

what is necessary in order to permanently highlight new items (posts, comments) for registered users? (“permanently” means: until next manual site refresh)

Right now, new items fade out. This behaviour becomes unpractical when there is too much new content (comments).

    Any tips would be appreciated.

  • What do you mean by “until next manual site refresh”?

Well, I just think that new content should be visible much longer than the time they take to fade out IMHO. Some kind of badge or alternate background to new items would be helpful.

If you have a lot of posts with heavily threaded comments, how are you able to keep track of every new additions/changes?

Posts don;t fade out, as such, They’re moved down (and eventually off) the front page by newer posts. If you want to stop that happening to certain posts, use Admin/Edit/Post/Visibility/Stick this post to the front page.

Of course, but that’s not what I meant 😉 If you check your p2 setup and there are a lot of new comments, how can you make sure that you don’t miss one?

An alternate background for those new comments (like author comment highlighting in some themes) would visualize that.

You can edit, or add in javascript so that once you see “new” items, they don’t fade away.

The current model was designed so users would not have to manually refresh, yet still get notification of new items.

That said, we’re aware of the inherent problem with notification of new items in the current iteration of P2 and we’re working on a solution to this.
