• I have followed the instructions in the Codex for moving WordPress from one server to another, but I’m still having issues with it.

When I go to a URL that I know exists on the site (yes, I refreshed my permalinks), it throws the 404 page. If I go into the admin and try to view the list of posts, this is what it shows me:
    http://skitch.com/benjamwelker/bim8k/wordpress-issues

Note the post count (138), although it can’t seem to find them (No posts found.) ??? They are all in the database, and if I access the post edit page manually, I can see the post, edit the post, do anything I want to the post, except view the post on the site.

It’s the same with pages, I can see them in the database, access them manually in the admin, but when I try to view them on the site… 404.

    Any thoughts, suggestions?

  • delete the .htaccess completely
    view post now without permalinks
    reset permalinks to desired structure
    should work correctly

Well, that confirms that it’s the permalinks that are breaking things.

It worked great when I set permalinks to default, and removed the .htaccess file. But once I set my permalinks to the original settings, it failed again, exactly like before.

I get a 404 error for everything. My homepage is set to a static page, and even that’s failing. I’m not getting a 404 on it, but the content is missing and in its place: “–>”, a close comment tag.

    windows or linux server?
