Support » Plugin: Merge + Minify + Refresh » Page speed went down, not up

    Hello support,

I added your plugin to my site and it looks like it automatically minified some files for me. I didn’t do anything but upload it and look at the settings page. But this didn’t increase my page speed, it slowed it down by 1 point in both Pingdom and Google Page Speed Insights. I’m guessing because the plugin’s weight is more than what it makes lighter?

Any insight would be appreciated. Is there something I missed? I don’t see any instructions on setting up the plugin.

Hi amandathewebdev. Its possible the minification process may of been still running when you ran the speed tests as it happens in the background. How quickly did you run the tests?

The plugin should be enabled by default but there are extra options to tweak settings. If you go to Settings > Mere + Minify + Refresh you can see if the script minification has completed.

Are you able to post a link to your website?

    Hi again,

I waited a few minutes, was that long enough? I saw some scripts had been run but I didn’t see a progress bar or any indication it was still running or had finished running, so I wasn’t sure and ran the tests.

When the scripts filename changes from .js to .min.js (or .css to .min.css) its generally finished. You can also expand the file to see the full details and how much of a saving you have made.

Also, you need to visit the site to trigger MMR to trigger a compress.

I’m marking this as resolved seems as there has been no response for a while.
