    Hi Ben …

With the latest update of Tracks, I decided to try to see if I could get my function.php in the child theme to work. It still will not work. 🙁

I even tried turning off ALL WP plugins except Jetpack; it’s a Jetpack function I’m trying to alter. Still can’t get functions to work from the child theme.

If I delete the function from the parent Tracks function.php file & add that same function code to the child theme functions.php file … the Jetpack function does not work at all. This is with all plugins, including cacheing, except Jetpack turned off.

    I’m beyond baffled.

My custom CSS in the child theme has worked fine since day 1 … but I can never get any other altered file I put into the Tracks child theme to work.

For right now, it would be great to get functions to work so I don’t have to alter the parent file every time I upgrade the theme.

    Any ideas?

    Joes,

I’m so sorry to hear this is still an issue. Let’s debug this from square one and see if we can’t find a solution.

Please download and activate the Tracks child theme here on your site: http://pics.competethemes.com/1Y1j3209252y

This should add some white text to the very top of the site saying, “This should be showing”. This very simple bit of PHP will let us know if the file is being called.

Please give that a shot, and let me know the results.

    Thank you!

I saved a copy of my old child theme to my desktop via FTP. Deleted the old child theme from the server. Then copied your custom child theme to the sever. Emptied the cache & checked the home page …. don’t see “This should be showing”.

I’ve switched back to my child theme again.

    Thank you for trying that.

Can you test this updated child theme? http://pics.competethemes.com/3o0H3k0W000d

If it works properly, the output will be the same text.

Nope did not work. Still don’t see the text “This should be showing”.

I also tried tuning off all plugins again. Still nothing.

Checked the .htaccess file to see if there were any oddities, it was reverted back to the stock WordPress setup.

Even tried looking at the site via Chrome Mac, rather than Safari … just to be sure it wasn’t a “browser” thing.

Checked source in Safari and searched for your text string … not there.

A2hosting.com is my hosting company just FYI.

    I’m stumped.

Joe I’m sorry but I’m stumped on this one too. I haven’t been able to recreate the issue or had this problem before with Tracks or other themes.

We can rule out plugins and WordPress core, but there could potentially be some conflict between Tracks and A2hosting. It’s only a guess, but it would be worth checking the PHP error log in your cPanel for any hints and contacting them about conflicts with child themes and their hosting environment.

I’m sorry again I couldn’t provide a solution for this.

    Ben …

No problem. I always appreciate your input. It verifies that I’m not going crazy! 😉

I may also try to do a reinstall of WordPress, just to be certain it’s not something odd there. After that I will call A2 tech support and see if they have any ideas.

    Thanks again!

    No problem, thanks for understanding.
