Support » Plugin: W3 Total Cache » W3 Total Cache 0.9.4.1 incompatible with WP 4.4.2?

  • I’m running WordPress 4.4.2 and W3 Total Cache 0.9.4.1, which I updated to several days ago.

The plugin has suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason – when it is activated all my admin pages go blank. The only way I can make the site work is to disable the plugin and rename advanced-cache.php and dp.php in /wp-content/.

While trying to find reports from people with similar problems I noticed that on the plugin page at present 43 people are reporting version 0.9.4.1 of the plugin as ‘broken’ when used with 4.4.2 and just 10 say it words.

Is it therefore the case that the current version of the plugin is definitely broken with the current version of WordPress? Does anyone know if there’s a fix on the way?

  • I use W3TC on all of my websites and they are all working properly on the latest version of WordPress. You should look into your server logs, or use WP_Debug to look into the issue.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the logs are telling me little.

With the plugin files on the site I cannot access any admin pages – I just get white screens – unless I rename advanced-cache.php and db.php so they can’t be accessed, and the plugin doesn’t work.

All I’ve got from the logs are this when trying to activate W3 Total Cache – however as this can only be done when advanced-cache.php and db.php have been renamed, it may be this reveals nothing helpful.

I confirm that I have the same problem

Just tried rolling back to version 0.9.4 but the problem remains so it mustn’t be related to the latest version.

It seems very odd to me that even when the plugin is deactivated I get white pages in the admin screens unless I rename advanced-cache.php and db.php

I put the version 0.9.4 and 0.9.3, but the problem is the same, nothing changes

Have you attempted to do a complete reinstall of the plugin? Have you or your host recently updated anything server side (php, etc)

According to my host nothing has been hanged on the server side.

I’m going to try a complete re-installation of the plugin next. But as I don’t think I’m going to be able to run the uninstall script within the plugin itself I’ve going to have to do it manually – and I may not have time to do that for a day or two.

I should add, I have also tried deactivating all other plugins and reverting to an original WordPress theme, but no joy.

Just a note that very little has changed in recent “updated” versions of this plugin. Mostly the readme file is updated, so using a slightly older version will not help in this instance.

A fresh install may help, and you may want to look at other plugins like WP Super Cache or Comet Cache which are actively maintained and supported (this plugin is not)

That’s helpful to know, thank you.

Decided to remove the plugin and use WP Super Cache. Thanks to those who helped with this.

I use W3TC on all of my websites, nice plugin.

Wish there were actual updates but it may be time to move on to another caching plugin, which sucks.

    Nice plugin

I am using the free version and it is great. It helps our site (http://fitlogy.com/) performance.Great Plug in I recommended it for beginner. Will share more feedback after a year :-)..
