I’ve discovered what appears to be a bug in the core.

Attempting to upload an mp3 file that doesn’t have any meta data to the media library results in the following, incredibly ambiguous, error.

An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.

I’ve tested this across multiple themes and the behavior is always the same.

I’ve tested it with all plugins deactivated and the behavior is the same.

I’ve tested it across multisite and standalone install also and the behavior is the same.

I am running the latest version of WordPress.

To resolve the issue currently we are adding the ‘title’ ID3 meta data to the file, but that’s quite a pain for my client.

A more usable solution for non techy users of WordPress would be to resolve the bug completely and allow uploading of mp3 files that don’t have any meta data.
